A TRADITION BEGINS In 1909, John E. Withers left the bitter cold winters of the North behind and settled his family in the warmer and more inviting climate of Miami, Florida. He bought with him two things that would serve him well: experience in transporting goods and a good sense of business. In the early 1900's, Miami was the last stop on the train to the South and a growing destination for tourists. It was also a city of opportunity for John E. Withers. With one horse and wagon, he would meet arriving passengers at the train station and transport their luggage to the Royal Palm Hotel. It was the beginning of Withers Transfer and Storage --the beginning of a tradition of service. As both the permanent and seasonal population continued to expand in Miami, so too did Withers Transfer and Storage. Recognizing the need for a safe and secure storage to store house hold belongings, the company constructed the first "high-rise" and fireproof storage facility in the city. It was four stories tall. During the boom years of the roaring twenties, three floors were added to the building to accommodate the increased demand for quality storage space. By the end of the decade, the Withers family had firmly established a reputation for fair, honest, and reliable local transportation an storage services. John E. Wither's sons, and later grandsons, would see the company through the next fifty years of growth and expansion. By 1980 Withers Transfer and Storage had become Withers Worldwide, and the family's fourth generation prepared to lead the company into the 21st century. THE TRADITION CONTINUES Today, Withers Worldwide is a multi-dimensional organization with satisfied clients on six continents. Under the stewardship of Wayne E. (Chip) Withers, Jr. and John David Ramsey III, the company has undergone rapid and dynamic growth and has extended both its reputation and array of services internationally. While its Transfer and Storage Division continues to provide local clients with superior moving and warehousing services, its Transportation Systems Division is the fastest growing component. Withers Transportation Systems is a fully integrated freight management and third party logistics and fulfillment service company. The company's sophisticated computer tracking and scheduling software, combined with old fashioned hands-on-service, has won the satisfaction and loyalty of clients throughout the world.
